Recreation

- Because the cemetery is located on a hill and the footpaths are narrow activities such as jogging, running, and biking are strictly prohibited for safety reasons.
- For your own safety and the integrity of our historic sites, please do not climb, lean against, sit on, or otherwise touch our monuments, as many are over 100 years old. They can and do topple. In addition, please do not place items such as bags or equipment on, or against monuments for the same reason.
- Please be respectful and mindful that our cemetery is a place of mourning and quiet reflection.
Dogs

Dog walkers are welcome on the grounds of our cemeteries and are expected to follow the guidelines below:
- Dogs must be licensed and have required vaccinations.
- Dogs must remain leashed at all times.
- Dog owners must clean up after their pets.
- Service dogs are permitted in our buildings.
Grave Rubbings
Due to the age and nature of our monuments, grave rubbings of any kind are strictly prohibited. If you are a researcher or a family descendant and would like to learn more about a certain monument or inscription, please contact our historian, Mary Thurston by email at mary@petcem.com.
Photography / Video Policy
Photography of funerals, mourners or plot-holders is not permitted. Photography and filming for professional, commercial or editorial purposes is not allowed without permission in advance from Hartsdale. Email us with your request at info@petcem.com
Schools & Meet-Up Groups

Hartsdale Pet Cemetery encourages senior groups, meet-up groups, classes, clubs, and schools to use the cemetery for educational and recreational purposes. Please contact us prior to your visit to ensure we’re prepared for your group.
Floral & Decoration Policy

We are sensitive to an individual’s expression of grief but we also have an obligation to protect the interests of all of our plot-holders. Hartsdale Pet Cemetery has endeavored to establish the fairest set of rules for all situations and earnestly tries to enforce them uniformly. These rules are not in any way intended to restrain unduly but rather to define an orderly plan of planting, care and maintenance. Your cooperation in helping to keep the Cemetery clean, beautiful and safe is greatly appreciated. In keeping with the common goal of maintaining the beauty and dignity of Hartsdale Pet Cemetery, the following policies are enforced:
- Fresh cut flower arrangements and potted plants are permitted. All flowers will be removed when they die or become unsightly
- The planting of any kind of flowers, bushes, shrubs and trees is strictly prohibited and will be removed
- Artificial flowers are permitted only in the winter months
- Hartsdale Pet Cemetery takes no responsibility for any items left at gravesites. Plot-holders should not have an expectation that memorabilia such as balloons, pinwheels, toys, stuffed animals or dolls, metal designs, ornaments, decorated trees, shells, pebbles, coins, glass, pottery or crockery, jars or containers, pictures or photographs, wood or metal cases, barriers, banners, votive lights, and candles will remain on a grave indefinitely. The cemetery reserves the right to remove such items if and when they become unsightly or damaged and detract from the overall beauty of the grounds. In addition, we do not have any obligation to notify plot-holders when we are doing so. We therefore recommend you not leave any items with great emotional or financial significance
- Holiday decorations will be removed two weeks after a major holiday
- Any images, symbols or memorabilia that we deem to be offensive or discriminatory will be immediately removed
- Ground-keepers are not authorized to give preferential treatment to any plot
- All questions and complaints must be registered at the Cemetery office
